Some General Thoughts By Wendell

After designing giant scale planes for scratch builders over the past 28 years we are pleased to report that from our perspective scratch building is alive and well. We are pleased to report record sales in 2004 and strong sales in 2005 and 2006. We thank the many of our new and repeat customers for your business. Many persons are still experiencing the great personal satisfaction of scratch building. We are always excited to take our “one of a kind” prototype to the field for its test flight.

Our latest designs for either gas/glo or electric, Stinson Voyager and Extra 300 XS are being well received but we were surprised to learn that most builders are still using gas or glo. We do believe that electric will become more popular in larger planes as persons discover the advantages of electric flight.

Our Extra 300 XS has been impressive. It uses the same electrical set-up that “professional” flyers are using in international competition. Again, we believe the future of electric is very promising.

Our latest design for 2007, the Taylorcraft BC-12-D, is a very nice classic design that will appeal to many. It also is designed for either gas/glo or electric.

One of the changes we have recently made is going from Supercoverite and paint to Ultracote. Both methods are good but paint is now more work than our aging body likes.

We recommend that if you go electric that you use brushless motors and lithium polymer batteries. For gas, a twin or multiple cylinder engine is the best.
